This is usually caused by obstructed or misaligned safety sensors. Check the small sensors near the floor on each side of the door. Clean the lenses with a soft cloth and make sure nothing is blocking the beam between them. Each sensor should have one solid light (usually green or red). If they’re blinking, gently adjust them until they face each other directly and the lights become solid.

Start by lubricating all moving parts with garage door lubricant (not WD-40). Apply lubricant to all rollers, hinges, and pivot points. Important: Do NOT put lubricant on the tracks themselves. If the noise persists, check if paint between the door panels is sticking – this is common on newly painted doors. If paint is the issue, contact your painter to scrape the excess paint between sections.
